By the way, to Martin: with Shirow, the problem is... Well, he likes to draw nude, plus he has a few hardcore hentai pictures, many soft. Not a big No loli, only "well-developed". Oh, and at http://www.seishinsha-online.co.jp/ in the "english/gallary" menu, you can find 2 new free pictures every month, worksafe as far as I can remember, maybe borderline for some.

He did do about three Loli pictures to my knowlage. All three are in his pirate style hentai collection. (Hellcat? Blackcat?)

Sure does! There are low-res scans of the other portfolio floating around; Novastar mentioned to me recently that he was trying to get ahold of said portfolio to make better scans. Some of it is NieA_7 artwork that we already have from the "Scraps" artbook, some of it is original work.

The low-res scans are in my recent torrent; if Novastar finds the other portfolio, there'll probably be a torrent/rapidshare for it.

There wasn't, back when I did this. I haven't checked if one has appeared, but I doubt it.

I'd suggest lowering the font size. The text will be more readable and look more in place with a bit of space around it.

Will do. I was actually kind of tempted to resize the scans to a more reasonable size, but I think the font will still be legible a size or two smaller.

Not sure which part you are refering to.. but you are right.. i need to rescan it again.. the whole thing really, i've been improving my scanning/editing skills some and do notice room for improvement.. give me a few minutes.

Also, not that it's a problem for me or anything, but why are the files *so* big? Couldn't practically the same quality be achieved with a smaller file size?

Yeah i see the problem now.. kinda mad at myself for not noticing it.. ah well.

The reason I left the resolution at that size was so people could resise to what they wanted themselves. As for scanning again, i'm a bit backed up studying for finals tonight.. but i'll try it again in a day or so. You might be able to get away with cloning it out though.

Oh, no no no no. It's not that I don't like the physical dimensions of the image -- in my opinion, the higher the resolution, the better the scan. It's just that the file size is about 13 megabytes, and it seems to me that the point of diminishing returns in quality might lie at a significanntly smaller file size. That's all. However, let it be known that I would prefer a 13 megabyte file with excellent quality to a 2 megabyte file with inferior quality. I don't do a lot of scanning, and I'm unfamiliar with .png compression, so I have no doubt you know more about it all than I do.

In the two color pictures, is the funky discolored line through the middle part of the artwork, or is it a scanning artifact?

I noticed that, too. The line is in almost every picture; it seems to not show up only on the stark black and white scans. It must be an artifact of the scanner.

It's a scanner artifact. The line at the edge is from the different way I tried to scan without debinding it, but I don't know why there would be one in the middle.

The artbook's called "Visual Experiments Lain," and it has mostly non-ABe art from the series in it. I think Nova has a copy, so he might be able to scan it for you.

(incidentally, it's often confused with the other, ABe-centric Lain artbook, "An Omnipresence in Wired," which has frequently been distributed labelled as Visual Experiments on the internets. be wary.)

Speaking of which I was snooping around ebay some today and noticed this was selling from someone in japan for 130 dollars or so. I strongly recommend no one pay more than 20 dollars for this book, as it's mostly just screenshots and japanese text, I was really expecting more ABe artwork in it and was rather disappointed. Maybe I should put it up on ebay myself...
