or just ABe's soccer stuff in general?
>>
That pic of Hikari is great! :D
>>
Yeah, where'd that Hikari pic come from? It looks pretty close to ABe's own artstyle.
>>
Wait, you mean that ISN'T ABe's own work?
>>
If it is, I have no idea where it's from. And that would be unusual, but not unprecedented.

What's the text on it translate to? That ought to provide some clue.
>>
I believe it says:

壁の向こうの人はこれをどういう風に使って遊んでたんだろう?
・・・こんな感じかな?
「うわっとっと」

村雨飛鳥
相互リンク感謝!

Which, if I undertand it all correctly, translates to:

I wonder how the people on the other side of the wall use this to play?
...Like this, I wonder?
"Uah-ah-ah!" [<-- Direct romanization would be "Uwattotto"]

Murasame Asuka [<-- I think the kanji here is a name, but the kanji may have a different reading than what I wrote here]
Thanks for mutual linking!
Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

Yar. I realized that I forgot the 様 (sama) at the end of the name. Oh well.
>>
村雨 is japanese sword name "murasame".
飛鳥 is "asuka". it's name of age(bc6c~8c).
>>
ありがとうございます!
>>
I have mild OCD, so bear with me here, but it should actually say, "I wonder how the people on the other side of the wall used this to play?"

Used. Past tense. That is all.

Maybe you should add a few more artists to the list? Abe is a bit limiting. Range Murata, Tezuka Osamu, Shirow Masamune, or whoever.

Look on amazon.com. Robot 1 is in English, at least.
>>
There's a range murata board up now for those who are interested.

http://valholl.info/murata/
>>
Robot 1 is a good one. Murate & Abe, plus some others you may like, you may dislike. Very good for the price, if you ask me (yes, I have one...)
>>
By the way, to Martin: with Shirow, the problem is... Well, he likes to draw nude, plus he has a few hardcore hentai pictures, many soft. Not a big No loli, only "well-developed". Oh, and at http://www.seishinsha-online.co.jp/ in the "english/gallary" menu, you can find 2 new free pictures every month, worksafe as far as I can remember, maybe borderline for some.
>>
He did do about three Loli pictures to my knowlage. All three are in his pirate style hentai collection. (Hellcat? Blackcat?)
>>
When you're talking about Shirow, loli is the least of your problems. You should just avoid him.
>>
I'm sad, the range murata board is down. =A=
>>
It was only a matter of time, I guess... I noticed that the images stopped loading a few weeks ago.
>>
Will be back the 27, I'll explain why this day because I don't want to hijack this thread and the board.

Was that supposed to mean 27th of August? -_-

Apparently, out of all celebrities, Lain looks the most like Enya. She also has a close match to JK Rowling.

Converted to JPG for the imageboard, because things went wonky the last time I tried uploading them in the PNG format (they're about 12 megabytes per file in that form).

If you simply must have the PNG files, I suggest talking to Novastar, or me in the IRC channel.

The end!

Does anyone know if ABe has any artwork in anotherh GoFA portfolio? Portfolio B, maybe?
>>
Sure does! There are low-res scans of the other portfolio floating around; Novastar mentioned to me recently that he was trying to get ahold of said portfolio to make better scans. Some of it is NieA_7 artwork that we already have from the "Scraps" artbook, some of it is original work.

The low-res scans are in my recent torrent; if Novastar finds the other portfolio, there'll probably be a torrent/rapidshare for it.

I felt motivated enough to edit more of Ame no Furu Basho today. Dunno why, today has just been a very ABe day for me. No sound fx yet, I'll have to poke Wingless for that again :-) .

This is page 10 of 28. Lots more to go.
>>
I'd suggest lowering the font size. The text will be more readable and look more in place with a bit of space around it.
>>
Will do. I was actually kind of tempted to resize the scans to a more reasonable size, but I think the font will still be legible a size or two smaller.
>>
What is "Where the Rain Falls" anyway?
>>
One of ABe's earliest manga one-shots (the earliest we've found, anyhow).

I need to pick this back up at some point.
>>
>3 to resize the scans to a more reasonable size
you mean scale down? Even smaller?

This is one of your GoFA Portfolio A scans. If you look closely near the center of the image, on the girl's right thigh, there appears to be some sort of visual artifact. I don't know if this is an actual artifact, or if it's something in the picture (if it is, then what the heck is it supposed to be?). In the event that it *is* an artifact, you would receive much love if you could rescan this beautiful image for me.
>>
Not sure which part you are refering to.. but you are right.. i need to rescan it again.. the whole thing really, i've been improving my scanning/editing skills some and do notice room for improvement.. give me a few minutes.
>>

Also, not that it's a problem for me or anything, but why are the files *so* big? Couldn't practically the same quality be achieved with a smaller file size?
>>
Yeah i see the problem now.. kinda mad at myself for not noticing it.. ah well.

The reason I left the resolution at that size was so people could resise to what they wanted themselves. As for scanning again, i'm a bit backed up studying for finals tonight.. but i'll try it again in a day or so. You might be able to get away with cloning it out though.
>>
Oh, no no no no. It's not that I don't like the physical dimensions of the image -- in my opinion, the higher the resolution, the better the scan. It's just that the file size is about 13 megabytes, and it seems to me that the point of diminishing returns in quality might lie at a significanntly smaller file size. That's all. However, let it be known that I would prefer a 13 megabyte file with excellent quality to a 2 megabyte file with inferior quality. I don't do a lot of scanning, and I'm unfamiliar with .png compression, so I have no doubt you know more about it all than I do.
>>
Any progress on this...?

In the two color pictures, is the funky discolored line through the middle part of the artwork, or is it a scanning artifact?
>>
I noticed that, too. The line is in almost every picture; it seems to not show up only on the stark black and white scans. It must be an artifact of the scanner.
>>
It's a scanner artifact. The line at the edge is from the different way I tried to scan without debinding it, but I don't know why there would be one in the middle.
>>

Also I just noticed yesterday that this was in one of Novastar's old torrents. But mine are bigger!

I'm looking for a back image of an artbook(I don't know which.) The front has lain lying down in a bunch of wires in a mainly black picture. The back has a bear wrapped up in wires. Can anybody supply me a (hopeful high resolution) image of the back of the art book(with the bear)? I'd love you forever and ever.

the FRONT looks like this.
I want the back!
>>
The artbook's called "Visual Experiments Lain," and it has mostly non-ABe art from the series in it. I think Nova has a copy, so he might be able to scan it for you.

(incidentally, it's often confused with the other, ABe-centric Lain artbook, "An Omnipresence in Wired," which has frequently been distributed labelled as Visual Experiments on the internets. be wary.)
>>
ahhh,
I see. thank you for the info.
>>
I do own this.. I'll try to have it scanned for you over the weekend. (i'm way too busy during the week working full time and going to school full time)

Thank you very very much Novastar!

Here you go. Hope this works for you, the book is slightly larger than my scanner so a bit to the left got cut off.. but I can probably reattach it after scanning it again if you need me to.

Speaking of which I was snooping around ebay some today and noticed this was selling from someone in japan for 130 dollars or so. I strongly recommend no one pay more than 20 dollars for this book, as it's mostly just screenshots and japanese text, I was really expecting more ABe artwork in it and was rather disappointed. Maybe I should put it up on ebay myself...
>>
higher quality image of the front please?
