There is no relation, really. They're completely different universes, and the idea that Rakka was the guy's girlfriend has no basis at all. Still, good AMV. It's impressive how much editing went into it -- inserting Rakka into all those Kimi ga Nozomu Eien scenes.

I just recently cosplayed Rakka for Sacanime, but it was really rushed with crappy wings and halo, so it's nowhere near as good as these. I feel inferior.

S.E. Lain original creator is Yoshitoshi ABe, no discussion about it, but there are more people working on it. If you see mangas like White Rain and animes like haibane you see the point of view of ABe.

Wingless is correct, ABe was only the character designer for Lain. The only anime he is the original creator of is Haibane Renmei, since it is based off of his doujinshi The Haibanes of Old Home.

According to Nihonjinron (Japanese studies, usually with a nationalistic tinge), Japanese relationships tend to be closer than that of Westerners. I'd imagine that that has to be accounted for; what may look excessive in a Western setting is par for course in a Japanese setting.
