I'm rewatching (again) Haibane Renmei and I realize I never came to terms with the meanings behind some elements of the story. Can anyone point out good resources for discussion or explanation of this series and its world?

I've probably already found out from the links provided, but Haibane Renmei bears a good few elements in common with Haruki Murakami's novel "Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World"
